Kelp is a type of sea vegetable used as a food in Asian countries. Kelps are part of brown algae group (seaweeds) in the order Laminariales. The dried kelp knots, also called Kombu seaweed is a very commonly used in Chinese, Japanese, and Korean cuisines. The dried kelps are iodine rich. They are a flavour enhancer for broths, stews and dashis and are also used as an ingredient in popular Asian snacks.
